DOT and DTI Region 2 Conduct Site Assessment for Creative Circuit in Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 02, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 02 and in close collaboration with the Provincial Local Government Units (PLGUs) of Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya, successfully conducted a four-day site assessment as part of the ongoing development of a Creative Tourism Circuit in the Cagayan Valley Region.

Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya have been identified as pilot provinces for this initiative, which aims to highlight the region’s rich cultural heritage, creative industries, and community-based tourism experiences.

The first day of the assessment was carried out in the Province of Quirino, where the team engaged with key stakeholders and visited several emerging creative and cultural sites. Among these were the Bugkalot community, where indigenous traditions and craftsmanship were highlighted, as well as local production sites showcasing fossilized flower crafts and the Q-LIFE production facility. These visits underscored the province’s potential in integrating indigenous knowledge and sustainable livelihood practices into tourism experiences.

The succeeding days of the assessment were conducted in the Province of Nueva Vizcaya, featuring a diverse range of creative and experiential destinations. The team visited a weaving community in Kasibu and Dupax Del Sur, where traditional textile-making continues to thrive, alongside a coffee production facility that reflects the province’s growing agri-tourism sector. Other stops included a wellness farm and and mulberry farm promoting holistic and sustainable living, a local museum preserving the province’s history and identity, and various production facilities such as buko pie making, beadwork, and pottery. Creative hubs were also explored, highlighting spaces that nurture local artistry and innovation.

The site assessment forms a critical step in identifying, evaluating, and strengthening potential tourism products that will comprise the Creative Tourism Circuit. This initiative seeks to provide immersive, authentic experiences for visitors while empowering local communities, artisans, and entrepreneurs.

Through this collaborative effort, DOT and DTI Region 02 reaffirm their commitment to fostering inclusive growth by linking tourism development with creative industries, ensuring that local culture, skills, and stories remain at the forefront of the region’s tourism offerings.

Further developments and program rollouts are expected as the agencies consolidate findings from the assessment and work closely with stakeholders in refining the Creative Tourism Circuit for Region 02.
