The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2 joined the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) during the soft launch and ceremonial activation of the Provision of Internet Access through Low Earth Orbit Satellites (PIALEOS) program, a landmark initiative aimed at expanding internet connectivity in remote and strategic tourism destinations across the Cagayan Valley Region.

Representing DOT Region 2, Regional Director Troy Alexander G. Miano expressed his appreciation to the DICT for its continued efforts in supporting tourism development through enhanced digital connectivity.

In his acceptance message, Director Miano highlighted the vital role of reliable internet access in improving visitor experience, strengthening destination promotion, and empowering local tourism stakeholders.

Among the tourism destinations in Region 2 that have successfully received internet connectivity through the PIALEOS program are:

โ€ข Bluewater Falls and Caves System, Baggao, Cagayan

โ€ข Callao Cave, Peรฑablanca, Cagayan

โ€ข Abuan River Adventure Park, City of Ilagan, Isabela

โ€ข 4 Lanes Plaza Park, Santiago City

โ€ข Siitan Natureโ€™s Park, Nagtipunan, Quirino

โ€ข Capisaan Cave, Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya

Director Miano also conveyed his enthusiasm for the continued expansion of the program, noting that DOT Region 2 looks forward to endorsing additional tourism sites across the region for future installations of free internet services.

The event was graced by DICT Assistant Secretary June Vincent Manuel Gaudan for Regional Development and DICT Assistant Secretary Pinky T. Jimenez, who concurrently serves as Regional Director of DICT Region 2.

The PIALEOS program forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve digital infrastructure and ensure inclusive access to information and communication technologies, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. By bringing connectivity to tourism destinations, the initiative is expected to contribute to sustainable tourism growth, increased visitor engagement, and stronger local economic opportunities throughout the region.
