The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2, together with its cruise tourism partners, continues to strengthen preparations for the scheduled cruise ship calls in 2027 and 2028 through a series of site visits, coordination meetings, and destination assessments in Claveria, Cagayan and the Province of Batanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activity was conducted in partnership with Travel People, the appointed shore excursion handler, as well as Wallem Philippines and Wilhelmsen Smithbell, the designated port agents for the cruise operations. The joint team visited Claveria, Cagayan on July 5\u20136, 2026, followed by Batanes on July 7\u20138, 2026, to evaluate tourism sites, assess operational readiness, and strengthen collaboration with local government units and tourism stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Claveria, the delegation met with the Acting Mayor, the Municipal Tourism Officer and officials of the Philippine Coast Guard to discuss the municipality’s preparations for receiving international cruise passengers. The team also conducted inspections of key tourism sites and assessed potential shore excursion routes to ensure that the municipality is well-positioned to deliver safe, organized, and memorable experiences for cruise visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Batanes, the delegation held coordination meetings with the Vice Governor of the Province of Batanes, the Local Chief Executives of the Municipalities of Ivana, Mahatao, Sabtang, and Uyugan, as well as the Municipal Tourism Officer of Basco. The consultations reaffirmed the commitment of the provincial and municipal governments to work closely with the DOT and its cruise tourism partners in ensuring the successful implementation of the upcoming cruise ship calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussions centered on destination readiness, visitor management, preservation of the province’s cultural and natural heritage, transport and logistics coordination, safety and security measures, and the development of authentic visitor experiences that highlight the unique Ivatan way of life while promoting sustainable tourism practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The site visits likewise enabled the technical team to validate proposed shore excursion itineraries, evaluate port and tourism infrastructure, and identify operational enhancements necessary to ensure efficient and high-quality cruise passenger experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The early and continuous coordination with local government units and industry partners is essential in ensuring that destinations are fully prepared to welcome international cruise visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cruise tourism presents a significant opportunity to generate economic benefits for local communities while showcasing the exceptional destinations of Cagayan Valley and the Northern Philippine Islands to the global market. Through close collaboration with local government units and industry partners, the Department is laying the groundwork for seamless cruise operations that prioritize visitor satisfaction, community participation, and sustainable tourism development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The preparatory activities form part of the Department’s continuing efforts to position Region 2 as a premier cruise tourism destination under the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) 2023\u20132028 and the Love the Philippines campaign.
