The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2, in partnership with the DOT\u2013Office of Human Capital Development (OHCD), successfully conducted a Regional Learning Needs Assessment (LNA) Consultation and Focus Group Discussion on April 14, 2026, at Go Hotels in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activity brought together key players in the region\u2019s tourism sector as part of the Department\u2019s ongoing efforts to strengthen human capital and ensure that tourism workers are equipped with the skills needed to keep up with the industry\u2019s evolving demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the consultation, the DOT aimed to better understand the current competencies of tourism workers, identify skills gaps, and determine priority training needs across the region. The insights gathered will help shape a responsive and evidence-based Training Work Program aligned with the Philippine Tourism Human Resource Development Strategy and the National Tourism Development Plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regional Director Troy Miano delivered the welcome message and extended his sincere gratitude to all partner stakeholders who attended the workshop despite the ongoing crisis. He emphasized that their participation is highly valued, as the activity plays a vital role in identifying priority training programs based on the needs of the community and stakeholders. He further highlighted that this initiative is essential, as the department is mandated to provide training and technical support, which serve as the foundational pillars of the tourism industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the program, OHCD Director Arlene Alipio shared the Department\u2019s national thrusts and policies, including its flagship programs. Consultants from TwoEco Inc. also guided the participants through a series of structured discussions to help identify key competency gaps and training priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activity was attended by representatives from Local Government Units (LGUs), accommodation establishments, tourist transport operators, the academe, tour guides, national government agencies, and non-government organizations (NGOs). Their active participation and exchange of insights provided valuable perspectives on current challenges, workforce development priorities, and opportunities for stronger collaboration in advancing tourism human resource development in Region 2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
