DOT Region 02 Secures ₱1 Million Financial Assistance from DOT Central Office for the Development of “Experience Baggao” Tourism Circuit
The Department of Tourism Region 2 (DOT Region 02) has successfully secured financial assistance amounting to One Million Pesos (₱1,000,000.00) from the Office of Product Development (OPD) of the DOT Central Office to support the Municipality of Baggao, Province of Cagayan, in the site assessment and development of ecotourism destinations and tourism trails within the municipality.
The financial assistance was approved upon the request and endorsement of DOT Region 02 and will be utilized for product development activities under the “Experience Baggao: A Destination Beyond Imagination” Tourism Circuit. The funding also covers the conduct of a familiarization tour, focusing on assessing destination readiness, validating tourism routes and experiences, and refining tourism products and services prior to full-scale promotion.
Through comprehensive site assessments, trail mapping, and on-site evaluations, the initiative aims to ensure that identified ecotourism destinations and tourism trails are sustainably developed, environmentally responsible, and aligned with community-based tourism principles. The activity will likewise identify priority areas for improvement in accessibility, visitor safety, interpretation, and overall destination management.
DOT Region 02 emphasized that the approval of the financial assistance reflects the strong collaboration between the DOT Central Office and its regional offices in advancing tourism development at the local level. By providing both technical and financial support, the Department enables local government units (LGUs) to develop well-planned, competitive, and sustainable tourism destinations that generate inclusive economic opportunities for local communities.
