DOT conducts 1st Regional Tourism Crisis Management Symposium
The Department of Tourism (DOT), Region 2 has conducted the first Regional Tourism Crisis Management Symposium last November 23, 2018 at Hotel Roma, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
The said symposium aims to build resiliency in every crisis situation that may arise and affects the tourism industry, and define issues and concerns to propose necessary solutions.
With the identification of the Philippine tourism industry risk factors as PESTE (Political Turmoil, Economic Instabilities, Social Disturbances, Technological Attacks and Environmental Hazards), the symbolic unveiling of the “PUKSA: A Crisis Management Process Flow”” became the ultimate highlight of the symposium. PUKSA essentially outlines a workflow – a crisis management process – for the tourism industry and is made up of the following steps:
Plan for prevention and mitigation of hazards and threats through risk analysis
Understand the value of emergency preparedness and capability-building to implement actions
Know the alarm system, response-recovery-resumption procedures
System evaluation and enhancements
Adopt, adapt and act
This process will be a continuing cycle that will become more effective and potent over time.
A total of 200 participants have attended the said symposium.
