DOT Cagayan Valley Region organizes forum on air connectivity and accessibility


March 28, 2017, Tuguegarao City- The 1st Cagayan Valley Region Air Connectivity and Accessibility Forum was conducted to plot the directions of the Region and the Northern Luzon’s air connectivity and accessibility. It provided  platform for discussion of operational, marketing, institutional, and political dynamics of air connectivity and access that impact the tourism industry in the interdependent regions of Ilocos, Cordilleras, Central Luzon and the Cagayan Valley and Northern Philippineb Island Region.

The forum was graced by government officials and private counterparts. In the program, Ms. Carol Uy, the Chief Tourism Officer of DOT Central Luzon in her message, envisions the possible activities connecting the regions of Northern Philippines to include breakfast in Clark, lunch in Tuguegarao City and dinner in Sagada thru the North Luzon air connectivity. Meanwhile, Dr. Erwin Balane, Chief Tourism Officer of the DOT Market Development Group Route Development presented the Air Route Development group. Also in the event was the Governor of the Province of Cagayan, Gov. Manuel N. Mamba who actively listened and interacted during the morning session. He even raised his points regarding the need to establish a new airport outside the city and also questioned the operations of the Cagayan North International Airport of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA). On the other hand, Dir. Marie Venus Tan of DOT-CAR presented the North Luzon Air Connectivity with emphasis on crafting an international tour packages.

In the said event, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific had the chance to present their product updates and expansion plans for Region 2. While Capt. Kim James Ong, the Head of Operations of the Wakay Air Transport, INC. launched the Wakay Air flight to Bagabag Airport. In line with these developments in civil aviation, Manager Mary Sulyn Sagorsor presented the Civil Aviation policies and development plans for the region. She pointed out that the region has old and small airports but promising gateways. While Mr. Gabriel Lingan, the Business Development and Marketing Chief of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority presented the operation prospects for Cagayan North International airport. And lastly, Mr.Hilarion Ritchie Nacpil, the Manager for airport operations of Clark International Airport presented the features and developments in the Clark International airport and also shared Clark International Airport Connectivity to North Philippines and Operational updates.


Indeed, accessibility is a key element for any tourism destination and this is part of the governments’ thrust to disperse tourism activities and providing greater access especially to remote places.
