DOT Cagayan Valley and Northern Philippine Islands implements Tourism Industry Skills Program

 

The Department of Tourism, Cagayan Valley and Northern Philippine Islands region conducts and implements various skills training program in the region.

 

 

A total of seven skills training proposalsworth PHP3.6 million were approved and conducted for the last quarter of this year and these compose of eco—guiding, food and beverage skills training, housekeeping, homestay training and tour guiding. These skills trainings were successfully delivered and implemented with the help of the trainers and speakers who are experts in the field of tourism and hospitality industry. The said trainings are indeed significant in building a more competitive tourism workforce that will also help boost the tourism in the region.

 

The first training conducted was Eco-guiding designed for the local guides in the barangay of Ansipsip in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya. The participants were taught basic mountaineering course, tour guiding, flora and fauna, bird watching and star gazing. The participants had an actual demonstration of the tour guiding techniques they learned from the seminar. The training lasted for seven days which started from 25 to 31 of October.

 

 

Meanwhile, on November 6-10, 2017, the Food and Beverages Services skills training program was also conducted for the various industry workers in the City of Cauayan in Isabela. The participants were taught food and beverage service procedures, table services, bar operations and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).

 

 

On the other hand, on November 15-21, the first batch of the Eco-Guiding Seminar was conducted in the province of Quirino with emphasis on first aid and common emergencies, basic life support, flora and fauna identification, tour guiding techniques with actual guiding activity and, basic ropemanship among others. The same training was conducted for the second batch on the 24-30 of November in the same province.

 

Also, the Housekeeping training seminar was conducted in the City of Cauayan from 23-25 November. This three-day seminar was attended by the industry workforce of the City. Also,the Department of Tourism is set to conduct and implement two more trainings on December 12-15 in the province of Nueva Vizcaya focusing on Homestay and Tour Guiding.

 

 

Tourism Industry Skills Program was designed to enrich the knowledge and upgrade the skills of all tourism industry workers preparing them to be at par with other ASEAN communities and the world and also aims to improve the experiences of tourists in the country’s tourist destinations.

 

By the year 2018, the Department will implement the second and final phase of the program to further equip those that are working in the industry and those that are in the community with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to bring a huge impact and improvement in the quality of services of the tourist destinations in the region. The Tourism Industry Skills Program supports the agenda of the present administration in investing human capital development, matching skills and training to meet the demand of the industry.
