DOT-Region 2 Kicks-Off National Tourism Week Celebration

The Department of Tourism, Region 2 kicks-off the celebration of the National Tourism Week 2021 with a Eucharistic Celebration presided by Reverend Father Dennis Jake Ordillos, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao today, September 21, 2021.
In his homily, Father Ordillos reiterated that travel is about encounter, it is about the meaning of the place to us and the connection it makes with our consciousness. This is in relation to this year’s theme, “Tourism for Inclusive Development”.
The Eucharistic Celebration is being observed annually by DOT Region 2 to kick – off the weeklong celebration of the National Tourism Week. The mass was livestreamed via the DOT- Cagayan Valley Region Facebook account.
Aside from this activity, DOT has lined up activities to intensify and highlight the relevance of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) theme to the tourism industry and stakeholders. Among these activities are the simultaneous Ribbon Cutting and Turn-Over Ceremony of the Tourism Display Panel in three (3) major service areas in the region namely Santiago City, Cauayan City and Tuguegarao City. This will also be livestreamed via the DOT- Cagayan Valley Region Facebook account.
The regional office also published three (3) contested events namely Food Photography, Vlogging Contest and Tourism Video Making Contest which will all be adjudged on September 27, 2021. The winners will be announced live over the region’s Facebook account.
The National Tourism Week is celebrated every last week of September by virtue of Proclamation No. 894 signed on October 3, 1996, by then President Fidel Ramos. The celebration coincides with the declaration by the UNWTO of September 27 as World Tourism Day, and Proclamation No. 1942 signed in 1980.
