DOT Region 2 kicks-off 2019 National Tourism Week

The Department of Tourism, Cagayan Valley and Northern Philippine Islands Region opens the celebration of the National Tourism Week with a Eucharistic Celebration held at the Divine Mercy Parish, Pengue Ruyu, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan on September 20, 2019.

The National Tourism Week is celebrated every last week of September by virtue of Proclamation No. 894 signed on October 3, 1996 by then President Fidel V. Ramos. The celebration coincides with the annual observance of September 27 as World Tourism Day, declared by the United Nations World Tourism Organization and Proclamation No. 1942 signed in 1980.

This year’s theme, “Tourism and Jobs: A Better Future for All” focuses on creating and ensuring equitable employment which is essential in increasing social inclusion, peace and security in the tourism sector.

In line with the said celebration, DOT R02 will hold the annual Regional Tourism Quiz at Robinson’s Place, Santiago City on September 27, 2019 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.

Student winners from the secondary and tertiary level during the elimination round conducted by the provincial and city tourism office in the region are expected to participate.

Aforementioned activities are foreseen to create awareness on the tourism industry and to implement worthwhile activity in observance of UN declaration of World Tourism Day.
