DOT Region 2 holds Regional Farm Tourism Summit and Trade Fair

The Department of Tourism, Region 2, under the leadership of Regional Director Troy Alexander G. Miano, successfully staged the first Regional Farm Tourism Summit and Trade Fair at the Amancio Nicolas Agri-Tourism Academy in Cordon, Isabela, on March 13, 2023.

Various personalities in the farm and tourism industries graced the event and shared their invaluable presentations in various sessions designed for the summit. Assistant Secretary Christopher V. Morales acted as the Keynote Speaker and spoke about the theme, “Innovative, Inclusive, and Sustainable Farm Tourism in the Cagayan Valley Region.”

 

 

The Local Government Unit of Cordon expressed their appreciation and delight because their town was chosen to be the venue of this year’s regional farm tourism summit. The honorable Vice Mayor Abegail Sable, who represented Mayor Lynn M. Zuniega in her message, expressed the LGU’s support for the tourism programs and activities of the Department.

 

RD Miano also took the opportunity to highlight the importance of the synergism of all the sectors of society, including the National Government, the Local Government Units, and the Private Stakeholders, in advancing tourism in the region. He also expressed gratitude to all the delegates, especially to the presence of Asec Morales, which showed the strong support of the Central Office for the programs of the region.

 

 

Other partnering agencies, like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Agriculture (DA), also expressed their message of support and possible areas of partnership to strengthen the farm tourism industry in the region.

 

The summit presented three significant sessions that tackled important topics related to the theme of the regional farm tourism summit. Among the speakers who shed light on these topics were Ms. Noime Liangco of the Amancio Nicolas Agri-Tourism Academy, Engineer Rolando Pedro of the DA, Mr. Randolph Cacacho of the DTI, and Mr. Christopher Musni of the Department of Science and Technology. A video presentation on the topic “Developing Rural Communities through Sustainable Farm Tourism” was also played, featuring Mr. Antonio “Al” Linsangan III.

 

DOT-Region 2 Senior Tourism Operations Officer Thomas G. Santos also presented the topic on the promotion of accredited tourism camps in the region. The National Secretary of the Samahan ng Sakahang Panturismo ng Pilipinas, Ms. Mary Corinne Mamba, also shared the Farm Tourism Program Updates of the Cagayan Valley Farm Tourism Association.

 

A total of 91 participants completed and participated in the regional farm tourism summit, including farm tourism owners, tourism officers, travel agencies and tour operators, transport operators, other line agencies, academe, and the LGUs.#
