DOT Partners with Nueva Vizcaya for Tourism Product Development

DOT Cagayan Valley Region conducted a technical assistance on Tourism Product Development (TPD) Workshop for the Province of Nueva Vizcaya last March 5-8. The workshop was co-hosted by the province and was attended by representatives  from ten municipalities.

The successful product development exercise resulted to three new tour itineraries including the conduct of dialogues with stakeholders in the destinations of the province.

The circuit for Quezon- Bagabag- Bayombong towns resulted to an itinerary for Lintungan Falls, Department of Agriculture Farm Site, ASEAN Awardee GnB Restaurant and  the Rizal Shrine. The circuit for Sta. Fe-Dupax Del Sur- Bambang towns came up with an itinerary for Balete Shrine and Salaksak Shrine, Dupax Del Sur Church and the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Trading Center.  The most promising destination circuit is a combination of the towns of Sta. Fe-Bayombong-Quezon.

DOT Director Virgilio Maguigad said, “the product development for tourism destinations is the initial activity in developing a marketable tourism product using the Product Development Planning Cycle”. Maguigad added that the technical assistance is one of the major programs of the Department of Tourism to help local destinations generate visitor traffic and economic activities in their tourism sites.

During the four-day classroom and in-situ workshop, new tourism products were validated and enhancement strategies were extended to the tourism stakeholders in the identified tourism sites.

The municipalities who participated in the TPD Workshop were Ambaguio, Bagabag, Bambang, Bayombong, Diadi, Dupax del Sur, Kasibu, Quezon, Santa Fe and Villaverde.  DOT Region 2 was ably assisted by the Provincial Tourism Office of Nueva Vizcaya headed by Marichelle Costales.
