DOT Hosts 2018 National Statistics Month

The Department of Tourism Region 2 hosted the regional launching of the month-long celebration last October 1, 2018 with the theme “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development”.

 

An advocacy lecture for the participants of the regional launching emphasized the importance of collecting the right statistics as well as using statistics in tourism development.  The lecture also discussed the highlights and challenges in the tourism industry in coming up with consistent submission of data from tourism attractions and accommodation establishments.

 

The tourism outlook for the region is bright considering the upward trend of tourism statistics. This was emphasized during the Tipon-Tipan sa Philippine Information Agency last Tuesday, October 9 attended by DOT Regional Director Virgilio Maguigad as well as the provincial tourism officers of the region.

 

Having been recognized by the Regional Development Council as an “emerging tourism destination”, tourism in the region is a promising industry that can provide the much need shot-in the arm for the regional economy.

 

The regional launching was supported by National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Director Dionisio Ledres Jr. and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Director Marilyn Estrada, along with media personalities and other government line agencies.
