Dive Batanes Captivates Audiences at Philippine International Dive Expo

Dive Batanes, a prominent dive stakeholder recognized by the Department of Tourism, Region 2, presented the captivating diving opportunities in Batanes on a national stage during the Philippine International Dive Expo (PHIDEX) at the Philippine World Trade Center Manila. Their presentation, held on the expo’s final day, received widespread attention and praise from the attendees.
Mr. Douglas Rutherford delivered an engaging narrative during his stage presentation, providing insights into Dive Batanes’ journey and the exceptional diving experiences available in the northern province of the Philippines. His address highlighted Dive Batanes’ commitment to revealing Batanes’ hidden treasures to the global diving community.
“We are Dive Batanes from region 2 in the most northern province in the Philippines… until recently almost unknown for scuba diving,” remarked Mr. Rutherford. He continued, “We are here today to share the reality of an area of the Philippines that has been obscured from the world.”
In his presentation, Mr. Rutherford recounted Dive Batanes’ establishment in 2008 and their steadfast dedication to promoting diving in the region despite prevailing misconceptions. Testimonials from notable individuals like Finn Snow were shared, emphasizing the exceptional clarity of Batanes’ waters.
“It has been a slow rebuilding of tourism for everyone, everywhere. And now thanks to our friends and host, the Department of Tourism Philippines. We can all “Love the Philippines” again. Thank you, Mr. President Marcos, Ms. [Secretary] Garcia and all the hardworking team of DOT Region 2, that discovered us and are now sharing what Batanes and region 2 have the rest of the world,” he added.
Throughout the expo’s business-to-business engagements, Dive Batanes’ owners and managers, Ms. Josie Loor and Mr. Douglas Rutherford, alongside dive partners Mr. David Stephen Smith and Ms. Agnes Kristine Esteban, participated in productive discussions and fielded numerous inquiries.
Another notable highlight of Dive Batanes’ involvement was the meeting between Ms. Hazel Javier, Tourism Attache of Taiwan, and Dive Batanes operators. The discussions focused on potential collaborations to promote diving tourism in Batanes, fostering international cooperation in the tourism sector.
Dive Batanes remains committed to its mission of showcasing the beauty of Batanes’ underwater landscapes, extending an invitation to adventurers to explore its pristine depths and diverse marine life.
