Department of Tourism Region 2 Showcases Rich Cultural Heritage and Creativity at the 2nd North Luzon Travel Expo

The Department of Tourism Region 2 (DOT Region 2) proudly participated in the 2nd North Luzon Travel Expo, held at the CAP Convention Center, Camp John Hay, Baguio City from November 25 to 27, 2023. This vibrant event celebrated the diverse cultural tapestry and creative talents of the region, captivating the audience with a unique blend of fashion, art, and traditional performances.

One of the highlights of the event was the “Hibla ng Lahi Fashion Parade,” where DOT Region 2 collaborated with a renowned fashion designer and models to showcase the exquisite Gaddang weaves of Santiago City and Nueva Vizcaya. This dazzling display of indigenous craftsmanship provided a visual feast for attendees, offering a glimpse into the intricate artistry embedded in the cultural fabric of the region.

RD Troy Alexander Miano expressing the significance of the showcase, stated, “Not all Filipinos are aware that Cagayan Valley has its own weave, its own fashion, its own colors, and design. Tonight, we will showcase some of the indigenous people’s fashion, and it will be the first time in so many years that in this part of Northern Luzon, in the City of Baguio, we will showcase this kind of fashion.”

Mr. Mark Anthony Baliao of the House of Balified, a prominent fashion designer, expressed his enthusiasm about the event, stating, “It was an incredible opportunity to collaborate with DOT Region 2 and showcase the beauty of Gaddang weaves on a prestigious platform like the North Luzon Travel Expo. The fusion of traditional textiles with contemporary fashion created a truly mesmerizing experience.”

Adding to the cultural richness, the Ari Tau Folkloric Society graced the stage with captivating traditional dances, offering a dynamic and immersive experience of the region’s heritage. The performers skillfully presented the vibrant cultural tapestry that defines the soul of Cagayan Valley Region.

In a separate showcase, the Rice Art Nation of Ramon, Isabela, brought a unique touch to the event with their participation in the “Art in the Park North Luzon.” Visitors had the opportunity to witness the extraordinary creativity of the Rice Art Nation during live demonstrations, showcasing the artistic fusion of agriculture and artistry that the region is renowned for.

In a rhythmic crescendo, the musical band Kadwa Drum Beats delivered an remarkable performance during the musical show, infusing the atmosphere with energetic beats that resonated with the spirit of DOT Region 2. Their unique blend of traditional and contemporary rhythms added another layer of richness to the expo, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

The DOT Region 2’s presence at the 2nd North Luzon Travel Expo not only highlighted the picturesque destinations and travel opportunities within the region but also emphasized the commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage.
