Calayan hosts tourism product development for 2nd District of Cagayan
The Department of Tourism Region 2 recently concluded Workshop on Tourism Product Development for the 2nd District Municipalities in the Province of Cagayan held at the Island Municipality of Calayan, Cagayan last 11-14 April, 2018.
The workshop was attended by the Planning Officers and Tourism Officers from the different Municipalities namely, Abulug, Calayan, Piatand Sanchez Mira and other stakeholders particularly Homestay Owners, Boat Operators and Owners, Local Tour Guides and Members of the Municipal Tourism Council of the Municipality of Calayan.
DOT Region 2 Director Virgilio Maguigad said that the workshop is one of the mandates of the Department of Tourism which is to extend technical assistance to the Local Government Units, to equipped them with necessary technical skills to develop their tourism products, services and destinations in the field of Tourism.
Aside from imparting the technical skills necessary to develop their products, services and destinations, the participants were also taught on how to use the Tourism Rapid Assessment (TRA) Tool. This tool will enable the user to generate an objective assessment and narrative report to identify the suitable development methods necessary in their respective areas and to generate substantial data.
Participants were also taught to safeguard their natural and cultural heritage where community participation, protection and management of natural resourcesis necessary to ensure sustainable development. For this topic, the National Ecotourism Strategy and Action Plan (NESAP) was discussed.
Progressive Accreditation System was also introduced, where the participants learned on how to improve their services and satisfy their visitors by undertaking the standards set forth by the Department of Tourism through the Accreditation.
The workshop was conducted by the Department of Tourism Region 2 in cooperation with the office of Congresswoman Baby Aline Vargas-Alfonso and LGU Calayan.#
